Although you may miss hitting the gym or workouts with mates due to the social distancing measures needed to stop the spread of the virus, there are still plenty of ways to stay fit and healthy at home. You don’t even need any equipment - just download any of these free apps on your mobile and give them a try.
Whether you’re wfh or rfh (relaxing from home), these health and wellness apps will stop you from going stir crazy - and keep you looking and feeling fab!
5 Must-Have Mobile Apps To Add To Your Social Distancing Routine
1. HIIT The Ground Running
Looking after yourself should be your number one priority in isolation! As you start to get to grips with your new routine, we definitely rate taking 20 mins out of your day to get a sweat on. Exercise releases endorphins so it’ll make you feel good as well as keep you in shape; high intensity interval training is a great way to get fit with short, sharp workouts. There’s heaps of fitness apps out there that support HIIT and we’ve spotted a cheeky Peloton offer of 90 days for free! Their app experience gives you so many options to tailor your workouts and focus on specific areas of your body - it would be rude not to!
King of Fit Joe Wicks is also taking on the challenge of becoming the nation’s P.E. Teacher and will be streaming live HIIT workouts for all ages on his YouTube channel, all completely free - what a dream!
2. Remember To Breathe!
There’s no shortage of meditation apps out there; whether you’re a total beginner or you consider yourself super zen, there’s something for everyone! Stop, Breathe & Think is a great alternative to better-known apps like Calm and Headspace, and we love its cute branding. This nifty app asks you how you’re feeling before giving you a recommended meditation or you can choose to explore other tracks; there’s even a “Calm Coronavirus Anxiety” series.
The app has a super cool Progress board showing your total check-in and meditation time across days, weeks and months - acing it! An added bonus is an integration with Amazon echo so you can ask Alexa to play your fave meditation as you drift off to sleep...
3. Dance Like No-one’s Watching (Because They Aren’t)!
Just Dance Now is a fun, relaxed way to get your exercise. If you already love dancing around in your PJs wielding your hairbrush as a mic then you should definitely take this app for a whirl. You can dance (and sing) along to your favourite hits; all you need is your mobile which you’ll hold in your hand as if it were a games console and a connected screen so that you can follow along with the moves. The only downside is that you get a limited number of coins to use against songs unless you purchase the premium - although you might like it so much that you decide to treat yourself!
4. There’s Never Been A Better Time To Find Your Zen
Do you struggle to get even half way to touching your toes? We know the feeling! If you fancy getting a bit more flexi then we’d strongly recommend giving yoga a go! As well as helping you get super toned, there are tonnes of studies that have shown yoga’s benefits on both physical and mental health. YouTube is one of the best resources for yoga and we’d thoroughly recommend Yoga With Adrienne; her voice is super calming, she’s got the cutest dog called Benji, and there are heaps of different sessions to choose from. You can find your groove with a short 5 minute video or take on her 30-day yoga challenge. Go on - light a scented candle, put on your comfiest joggers, and have a little zen moment for yourself. Your body deserves it!
5. Start To Build Healthy Habits With Loop
Setting yourself fitness and health goals and being able to tick them off as you work towards them is soooo satisfying! Try using the Loop app to build new habits and achieve your goals. Maybe you want to do a full-on exercise session three times a week and focus on your mental wellness the other four? You can create an individual reminder for each habit and easily mark this as complete, dismiss or snooze it for later. You can also build a habit chain and monitor your progress in the app’s visually pleasing charts.
Plan A New Wellness Routine For Yourself (And Have Fun!)
Social distancing is a new thing for us all to get used to - however, adding some workouts, yoga, or meditation to your routine (or even a full on danceathon) will lift your spirits and help you feel good! Keep snapping and share your fave apps and workout tips with your mates to give them some inspo and encouragement too. At times like these we all need a bit of TLC!
